Ingestions and Questions - written 2020
Every morning, I look forward to coffee. I think there are very few things that can compare with it.
But this morning, I couldn't have any. Two coffee makers failed and I had no actual coffee outside of the pods or Kcups for the french press. #Poorpreparation
Though I hope we never have to go through this again, for the record if we do- two old coffee makers will not suffice for a pandemic. We better get three. Or at least one good one. And coffee in a variety of formulations.
I was temporarily despondent.
To make matters worse, I had spent an hour looking for seeds for our garden. So many places were sold out due to one of my tragic flaws- procrastination.
I was now desperate too.
Just when I was about to open the pods and put the grinds and the shards of plastic in the french press or more likely directly into my mouth, I came to my senses.
One of my goals is to try to teach the kids about balance. So I took a breath and a chance on this.
It ended up being lovely. And after that I found the seeds. It's a good thing Scott is so organized. I never fully appreciated it until now that I am home. Before we got married, his birthday gift to me one year was cleaning out my car. He has always known the way to my heart.
Anyway, it got me thinking about ingestions. There is so much in the news these days about ingestions and their potential harm vs potential benefit for so many indications.
And though I firmly hold to Hippocrates', let food be thy medicine, let's face it, he didn't really have much else to work with. somtimes we need something more.
Let me make one thing clear - if a person changes his/her diet for the better, there is a good chance that one decision will be the best chance at extending and improving life.
But while the majority of people will do well with healthy eating for so many medical conditions (including skin conditions), there are times when there is more to the story.
I've been really intrigued by the idea of celery juice as a panacea, which I'm going to go out on a limb and say it is not. But it is a movement, without much risk. And what if it does help? Adding these to any diet is a giant leap in the right direction. Keep going and growing.
We have to be careful. Supporters say certain elimination diets will remove heavy metal toxins and viral particles that cause eczema.
But what about those who have eczema due to genetics, some of which are well established?
I hold out that genetics may make a person susceptible and environment may trigger it. But I suspect there’s more to the story. I’m going to keep looking because my patients deserve some good research.
In other news, it was rainy and the boys had fun together making a documentary.
And we did some memory games to end our week of break. Memory is an incredible tool we humans possess.
Got me thinking about some sweet memories of my own.
